Hannah and the Ramadan Gift

This year, between the evenings of April 2 and May 2, our Muslim friends around the world will be observing Ramadan, a time of fasting, prayer, charity, and reflection. If you are observing Ramadan and your child has questions about it, or if your child has Muslim friends whose families are fasting this month, Hannah and the Ramadan Gift by Qasim Rashid is a spectacular book for them!

Alongside beautiful illustrations by Aaliya Jaleel, we follow Hannah, a little girl who wants to observe Ramadan but is too young to fast. She learns that fasting is a physical symbol of a spiritual concept, and there is much more to Ramadan than refraining from food and water between sunrise and sunset. By helping her family, classmates, and even people she has never met before, purely out of selfless love, she can celebrate the meaning of Ramadan. In the end, her family and their friends of different faiths and cultures come together to celebrate Eid al-Fitr.
