Believing in Me

Welcome back to Bibliotherapy Thursday! A few months ago we featured Sometimes I’m Anxious, a fantastic workbook that helps kids manage feelings of anxiety. This week’s pick is another book by the same wonderful author: Believing in Me: A Child’s Guide to Self-Confidence and Self-Esteem by Poppy O’Neill.

Believing in Me follows Bop the friendly monster as he and the reader learn how to boost self-esteem, control unhappy thoughts, and look after themselves. The 30 activities in the book guide your child through important topics like how to spot a true friend, problem solving, perfectionism, passive vs. assertive vs. aggressive communication, and many more that impact how children feel about themselves. The book is geared toward children 8-12, which is the time in which it is natural for children to be comparing themselves to others. While this is an essential developmental stage in which kids build their individual identity, it can also be a time in which children are extremely hard on themselves. This is a fun way to help kids build both self-confidence and self-compassion at an age when they need them the most.

You can find Believing in Me in print and e-book at these retailers:
